If you are familiar with Crest Whitestrips Premium Plus, you may have heard of its sister product, and the newest product in the line, Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects. These premium products from Crest contain the same ingredients, including 10% hydrogen peroxide, the bleaching solution that makes Crest Whitestrips effective. However, Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects contains other features that differentiate them from Premium Plus. This review will discuss these features in detail, and compare the product with other whitening systems.

Packaging

Although Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects contains the same ingredients as its sister product, the packaging updates on Pro Effects make it easier to use. Instead of being packaged in a cardboard box, Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects are packaged in portable blue plastic container with a mirror, making it easier to use this product on the go. The package contains 40 individually-wrapped strips—20 each for upper and lower teeth.

Usage

As with the original Premium Plus product, Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects strips are easy to use. The individual strips are labeled and color-coded, so there is never any guesswork as to which strip goes on the upper or lower teeth.

The directions for this new product are nearly identical to its predecessor as well. Simply remove the strip from its packaging, wrap the teeth as directed, and wear the strips for 30 minutes. To achieve the full whitening effect, the packaging suggests following this regimen twice a day for 10 days. The routine provided is merely a suggestion, however, as sensitivity and other factors may cause a user to follow a different regimen.

Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects is a great product for those with busy lifestyles because the product can be used nearly anywhere. Because there are no trays to fiddle with, the product may even be used in the office. Crest Whitestrips are effective so long as one does not eat, drink, or smoke during, shortly before, or immediately after use. Avoiding these activities for an hour in total should produce the desired effects.

Pain, Discomfort, and Sensitivity

While Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects is an effective product, there is a chance that users may experience sensitivity. Our research indicates that the pain experienced is minimal, and mostly results from the strips moving around in the mouth during use. Irritation of the gums from peroxide gel exposure is the most common issue. Be careful when placing the strips, or how you move your mouth once they are in place, to prevent the whitening gel from inching up to sensitive areas.

Effectiveness

Although Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects have a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide than whitening formulas purchased at a dentist, this product does produce consistent results. Expect teeth to be four to six shades whiter, based on light stain tests.

Final Verdict

Although the product is more effective than whitening toothpaste, Crest Whitestrips Pro Effects is not as powerful as other commercially-available whitening kits. The reduced coverage of the product, due to a lack of a customized whitening tray, combined with a weaker hydrogen peroxide solution, causes this product to fall short. Other products, like Dr Collins or Dental White, are far more effective at whitening teeth. Because products offered by dentists offer products with higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (16-23%), select a stronger product if more dramatic results are desired.
